At Lumini, pigment work runs on the PicoCare Majesty — and the generation matters. Most picosecond lasers pulse at around 450 picoseconds; the Majesty fires at 250, among the shortest pulse durations in aesthetic lasers. The shorter the pulse, the higher the peak power and the more purely *photoacoustic* the effect: pigment is shattered by a pressure wave rather than cooked by heat. That is exactly what you want when treating melanin-rich lesions, because a pulse shorter than the melanosome's stress-relaxation time breaks the target without collateral thermal damage to the surrounding skin — which is why this technology carries a lower risk of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, a decisive advantage in the darker and mixed skin types we treat every day in South Florida.

Finer fragmentation is also why it clears faster. Compared with the older Q-switched (nanosecond) lasers, the Majesty breaks ink and melanin into dramatically smaller particles — small enough for your immune cells to carry away efficiently. In practice that means pigment often responds in one to three sessions, and tattoos that plateaued under older lasers can start moving again, including stubborn colors: the platform's four wavelengths (1064 nm and 532 nm picosecond, plus 595 nm and 660 nm dye handpieces) cover black, brown, red, green and blue ink, cosmetic tattoos included. A micro-lens (MLA) handpiece adds a third dimension — "Pico-Fraxel" — concentrating peak power into thousands of focal micro-zones that create LIOB, controlled cavitation in the dermis that rebuilds collagen for acne scars, pores and skin texture while the surface stays intact, with roughly half the crusting time of traditional fractional resurfacing.

At consultation, Dr. Thiago Queiroz, D.O., and Dr. Caio Trentin, M.D., assess your pigment type — melasma versus sunspots versus post-acne marks — and your skin type, then choose wavelength, handpiece and energy accordingly, because pigment treatment must be tailored, not generic, to avoid making it worse. A session runs roughly 20 to 50 minutes by area; downtime is generally short, with possible redness, frosting or temporary darkening of spots before they clear, and results build progressively across a series spaced weeks apart.
